# Charters

To fully play the game and earn rewards, you must first **mint at least 1 Royal Charter**. &#x20;

A Royal Charter is a "season pass" that provides you with a daily regenerating supply of :zap:**Energy.**

You do not need a charter if you are sponsored by a [Guilds](/goldrush-s3/season-3-the-depths-below/guilds.md) (who purchases one on your behalf).

**What can I do as F2P?**

Without a Royal Charter, you can only play until your starting energy (30k) runs out.  You also cannot transfer any value (p2p trade, Trading Post, etc.) to other players, so your earnings and progress will be locked until you purchase a charter, or until you are sponsored by a guild.  Think of it as a "free trial" with locked progress.

## Charter Tiers

Charters come in four tiers, each with its own perks.  Only T1 Charters can be used for depositing into the [Paymasters](/goldrush-s3/season-3-the-depths-below/paymasters.md)syndicate vault, or used to sponsor [Guilds](/goldrush-s3/season-3-the-depths-below/guilds.md) members.  Charters can be upgraded after mint to higher tiers - ETH spent on upgrades to T3 and beyond are not included in the Prize Pool.
